Top 15 Indian films of 2024.

After a rocking 2023, the box office earnings took a hit in 2024. For Bollywood, it was a particularly underwhelming year. 2023 saw as many as four Rs. 500 crore grossers, which was an unbelievable feat. 2024, meanwhile, had only Rs. 500 crore grosser while the number of Rs. 100 crore plus films were also fewer in 2024. As a result, while 2023 had 8 Hindi films in the top 15 list, there were only 5 Bollywood flicks in a similar list for 2024.
In this special feature, we shall look at the top 10 Indian films of 2024 across languages at the India box office. As expected, Pushpa 2 – The Rule took the cake by collecting a record Rs. 1403 crore in all languages. The Hindi dubbed version’s gross collections have a lion’s share as its more than Rs. 900 crores. This was followed by another Telugu biggie, Kalki 2898 AD. The futuristic film with a mythological touch managed to collect Rs. 776 crores.
Stree 2 followed next. The horror comedy’s super-success stunned the industry. It went on to collect Rs. 740.28 crores and now is the top Bollywood grosser of all time. Devara followed next, earning Rs. 347 crores. The Diwali releases, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Singham Again, took the fifth and sixth positions as they collected Rs. 334.67 crores and Rs. 316.45 crores respectively.
The Tamil cinema finally made an entry to the list at the seventh and eight positions with The Greatest Of All Time (Rs. 305 crores) and Amaran (Rs. 258 crores). This was followed by Fighter. It underperformed and yet earned Rs. 244.70 crores.
HanuMan, the first major release of the year, is on the tenth spot, collecting Rs. 240 crores. Shaitaan, which collected Rs. 178 crores, is at number 11 position. In short, Ajay Devgn is the only actor to have two films in the top 15 list.
By collecting Rs. 174 crores, Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan made it to the twelfth position. In a rare instance, a Malayalam film entered the list. Manjummel Boys collected Rs. 170 crores and it was one of the most pleasant successes of 2024.
The fourteenth and fifteenth positions were taken by Hollywood films – Deadpool & Wolverine which collected Rs. 153 crores and Mufasa: The Lion King which collected Rs. 146 crores. Mufasa continues to run in cinemas and it remains to be seen if it goes past the number of the Ryan Reynolds-starrer.
