Sooryavanshi box office collection day 1: Akshay-Katrina’s film gets a blockbuster opening, collects Rs 26.29 crore

The wait is totally turning out to be worth it for Team Sooryavanshi! Rohit Shetty’s cop universe starring Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif was initially scheduled to release in March 2020. However, it had to be put on standby mode indefinitely due to the lockdown. Although many filmmakers eventually switched to OTT platforms and opted for a digital release, Rohit patiently waited with a hope for theatres to reopen. He wanted to help the single-screen owners, distributors, exhibitors to revive their business and not go the easy, convenient route by switching to OTT. And well, looks like the decision to wait for a worldwide theatrical release is paying off and how!

Sooryavanshi, which released on November 5, is off to a flying start. The film released in over 3500 screens in India and is getting a thunderous response from the critics and the audiences alike. Rohit, who is known for making power-packed entertainers with loaded action, romance, drama has yet again managed to live up to the mass appeal. Not to mention, Sooryavanshi also brings back Singham Ajay Devgn and Simmba Ranveer Singh which is acting like yet another crowd-puller in theatres.

As per early reports, Sooryavanshi has managed to gross a whopping Rs 26.29 crore on day 1. The film is getting an advantage of the long Diwali weekend just like how Golmaal Again, Housefull 4 had enjoyed in the past. Trade experts feel Sooryavanshi is Akshay’s biggest opener ever. However, on the flipside, it’s left to see how well does the film maintain its momentum at the box office since we are still in the middle of a pandemic and theatres in Maharashtra and other parts of the world are still operating with 50 percent occupancy.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared a twet on teh same, which read, “#Sooryavanshi ROARS on Day 1… REVIVES biz… Records EXCELLENT numbers, despite 50% occupancy in the largest market [#Maharashtra]… Day 2 is SUPER-STRONG… Has potential to grow over the weekend… CINEMAS AND CINEGOERS ARE BACK… Fri ₹ 26.29 cr. #India biz. #Diwali.”

Nevertheless, the film industry is celebrating the return of movies to the theatres. Yesterday, AK shared a heartfelt note thanking everyone for accepting the film with open arms. “Pardon the goofy gig am overjoyed! Thank you SO much for embracing cinemas back in your lives. The super response is not just for Team #Sooryavanshi, it is a mark of faith that’ll bring joy and prosperity back in our film industry. We are nothing without you. Sheer gratitude (sic)”, he wrote along with a funny dance video.
