Over the last decade or so, veteran actor Ashish Vidyarthi has been doing prominent and unconventional roles. His latest work is in the recently-released web-series Trial By Fire on Netlix, which is receiving rave reviews from critics and audience alike. The show is about the aftermath of the Uphaar cinema fire tragedy that took place in Delhi in 1997. The show sees Vidyarthi’s character team up with the lawyers representing the cinema owners while Abhay Deol and Rajshri Deshpande play the parents who lose their two children in the tragedy.

Vidyarthi said that he was blown away by Rajshri’s performance. “Rajshri Deshpande has given the kind of performance, it’s one of the finest performances I have seen in years. I can’t narrate how real she was. I told her that I am privileged that I was able to see you perform from such close proximity,” he said.

Co-incidentally, Vidyarthi has worked with Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol in the years gone by in mainstream Bollywood films and now he got a chance to work with their cousin Abhay Deol. When asked how different he found Abhay from his two cousins, Vidyarthi said, “It never struck me until you asked,” he said while giggling. “I have never even thought about it from this angle. Those were different times. There were different types of films that were being made. Abhay was (just) an actor I was working with. I had a lovely time chatting with him in whatever time we got.”

Sharing more about Abhay, he added, “Abhay is very natural and unassuming. If you enter a room where he is seated, you will notice him much later. He is completely untouched by anything. I met and worked with him for the first time. The times are different now. And his behaviour is in sync with today’s times.”

Trial By Fire also stars Anupam Kher, Shilpa Shukla, Ratna Pathak Shah and Rajesh Tailang.
