While the audience is in awe of the new world of the oceanic environment with island-based clan explored in the recent Avatar: The Way of Water, franchise director James Cameron recently revealed that he will next introduce the darker, fire-based ‘Ash people’ in the third installment of the franchise.
“[In the next movie, viewers can expect to see] different cultures from those I have already shown. The fire will be represented by the “Ash People”. I want to show the Na’vi from another angle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides,” he told a French outlet 20 Minutes, according to Screen Rant.
“In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na’vi examples. In Avatar 3, we will do the opposite,” he said adding that he will explore new universes while also continuing with the storyline of main characters.
“I can say that the last parts will be the best,” he assured. “The others were an introduction, a way to set the table before serving the meal. But obviously, everything will depend on how Avatar 2 is received, if it finds its audience.”
Cameron had previously said that the Avatar franchise will only continue if the second and third installments is received well in the audience. He revealed the “scripts are already written” and “everything’s designed” in case The Way of Water does commercially well.
Avatar: The Way of Water is currently playing in theaters. Meanwhile, Avatar 3 is scheduled to hit theaters on December 20, 2024.
