Perfect Nanny: Nicole Kidman and Maya Erskine to star in the limited thriller series at HBO

Nicole Kidman and Maya Erskine are both set to star in and executive produce a thriller series based on Leïla Slimani’s novel The Perfect Nanny. The project comes from Legendary Entertainment and HBO.

Published in 2016, “The Perfect Nanny” was inspired by the real-life gruesome murder of children Lucia and Leo Krim by their nanny in 2012. As noted by The Wrap tabloid, the book’s logline reads, “When Myriam decides to return to work as a lawyer after having children, she and her husband look for the perfect nanny for their son and daughter.

The logline continues, “They never dreamed they would find Louise: a quiet, polite, devoted woman who sings to the children, cleans the family’s chic Paris apartment, stays late without complaint, and hosts enviable kiddie parties. But as the couple and the nanny become more dependent on one another, jealousy, resentment, and suspicions mount, shattering the idyllic tableau.”

Meanwhile, the official logline for the upcoming series adaptation reads, “A seemingly perfect nanny goes to work for a couple with two young children, but her helpful personality eventually deteriorates into something sinister.” Kidman, who would mark her third series with HBO, and Per Saari are attached to executive produce for Kidman’s Blossom Films.

Erskine will also executive produce with Pascal Caucheteux for Why Not Productions, and Philippe Godeau for Pan-Européenne. On the work front, Kidman preciously starred in HBO series Big Little Lies and The Undoing. The Oscar winning actress is currently filming Mrs. and Mrs. Smith and Lulu Wang’s drama series Expats for Prime Video.

On the other hand, Erskine is best known for starring in the Hulu’s Emmy-nominated comedy series Pen-15 which she also co-created. She is currently in production on Mr. and Mrs. Smith as well. She is also known for her 2019 rom-com Plus One.
