Ponniyin Selvan aka PS 1, the magnum opus and dream project of filmmaker Mani Ratnam, has been garnering positive responses across quarters. With an ensemble cast of powerful performers like Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan among others, PS-1 has acted as crowd pullers in many sections, especially down South. Speaking about the second instalment, Mani Ratnam had revealed during the Mumbai press conference that they are looking at a six to nine months break, before releasing PS 2. Now, a recent update is that the film will be released in the summer 2023.
Rumours have it that the makers are planning on releasing PS-2 during Tamil New Year, that is, mid-April 2023. Trade analyst confirmed the details of the film releasing in summer 2023 but has not revealed any details about the date. His tweet read, “’PS2′ ARRIVES SUMMER 2023… #PS2 is targeting a *Summer 2023* release… The exact date will probably be locked in the next couple of weeks.” Furthermore, it is also being said that the shooting schedule of the second instalment is complete and that the film will soon go into post-production. The trade analyst also mentioned that, unlike Baahubali and KGF, the makers of Ponniyin Selvan shot both parts of the film simultaneously.
On the other hand, Adarsh has also predicted that the satellite rights of PS 1 will be going through a surge after the recent success of the period drama and that it will also help increase the popularity of the second instalment.
For the uninitiated, PS 1 is set against the backdrop of the Chola Empire and is based on a novel written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The film features Chiyaan Vikram as Aditya Karikalan, Karthi as Vanthiyathevan, Trisha as Kundavai and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Queen Nandini along with Jayam Ravi playing Arulmozhi Varman aka Ponniyin Selvan. The war drama also stars Jayaram, Sarathkumar, Prabhu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Prakash Raj among others playing pivotal roles.
