This man cycled from India to Sweden to meet the love of his life.

Love seriously knows no boundaries and this was further proved by a man who cycled for four months to meet his wife in Sweden. Yes, that happened. Dr Pradyumna Kumar Mahanandia, an artist, fell in love with Charlotte Von Schedvin after she came to India. And their story is something that will surely make you believe in true love all over again.

PK Mahanandia and Charlotte Von Schedvin’s love story started when she came all the way to India to get her portrait made by him. Charlotte arrived in Delhi in 1975 when Mahanandia was a well-known artist and a student at the College of Arts. While making her portrait, he fell in love with her beauty and she his simplicity.

“It was an inner voice that said to me that she was the one. During our first meeting we were drawn to each other like magnets. It was love at first sight,” Mahanandia told the BBC.

By the time, Charlotte had to leave, both of them decided to get married. “She wore a sari when she met my father for the first time. I still don’t know how she managed. With blessings from my father and family, we got married according to tribal tradition,” Mahanandia told the BBC.

But, he had to complete his studies and she had to leave for Sweden. The couple kept in touch through letters. Finally, after a year, he decided to visit his wife. But, he realised that he had no money to buy an air ticket. So, Mahanandia sold everything he owned to buy a bicycle.\

He cycled for four months to reach the Swedish town of Boras. During his journey, he crossed Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey. His cycle broke down several times and he also had to go without food. Mahanandia started his journey on January 22, 1977 and reached Europe on May 28. He used to cycle for about 70km every day.

Well, the happily ever after did come. The couple officially got married in Sweden and now have two kids. PK Mahanandia still works as an artist.
