Blind pimples, similar to other forms of acne, appear as red, inflamed spots and develop due to clogging of the pores. However, blind pimples do not have a distinguishing tip, as they form beneath the skin surface.
Blind pimples usually resolve on their own, but they are quite painful, inflammatory, and uncomfortable. Fortunately, there are home remedies and self-care measures that can mitigate the pain and can speed up recovery.
Additionally, following some precautionary measures, such as a good skin care routine, can prevent the formation or recurrence of blind pimples.
Home Remedies for Blind Pimples
The following home remedies may help in the treatment of blind pimples and their associated symptoms.
Note: Make sure to wash the affected area and pat it dry before using the remedy. Also, conduct a patch test to rule out any allergy or sensitivity.
1. Apply tea tree oil
Tea tree oil has been shown to effectively treat mild to moderate acne. It has antibacterial properties that control the growth of acne-causing bacteria on the skin, therefore preventing and treating blind pimples.
Moreover, the use of tea tree oil helps clear the pores from deep within. It can also speed up the healing process. You can either dilute the essential oil and use it or look for tea-tree oil-containing products such as serums and facial washes.
How to use:
- Mix water and tea tree oil in a 9:1 ratio.
- Apply the mixture to the affected area using a cotton ball.
- Wash your face with lukewarm water after 10 minutes of application. You can also use aloe vera gel in place of water if your skin is highly sensitive.
- Apply a moisturizer.
2. Prepare a honey and turmeric paste
Honey acts as an antimicrobial and bactericidal agent that kills acne-causing bacteria.
Turmeric, on the other hand, acts as an astringent and is an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agent, which reduces the swelling and redness associated with blind pimples.
How to use:
- Mix ¼ tsp of turmeric powder with ½ tsp of honey.
- Apply the mixture to the affected area.
- Wash it off after 30 minutes and pat your skin dry.
3. Apply an aloe vera-cucumber mist
Aloe vera is an excellent dermatological agent that can help control the inflammation, redness, and swelling associated with blind pimples. It also has antimicrobial properties.
Cucumber cools and soothes the skin, toning down the inflammation and redness.
How to use:
- Peel and cut a cucumber and grind it.
- Filter it through a cheesecloth to extract the juice.
- Transfer this juice to a spray bottle and add equal parts of fresh aloe vera gel. Mix them well.
- Apply the mixture to your skin after washing it.
4. Use charcoal masks
Charcoal masks cleanse the skin deeply, clearing the excess oil and dirt from the skin pores. They are useful in the treatment and prevention of blind pimples.
How to use:
- Mix 1 tbsp each of bentonite clay, rosewater, and charcoal powder, and a few drops of tea tree oil. Add water to form a thick paste.
- Cleanse the affected area, apply the paste, and allow it to dry.
- Wipe the paste off using a wet washcloth, and then apply a moisturizer.
5. Apply yogurt and lemon
The citric acid in lemon acts as a natural bleaching agent, lightening the skin and giving it an even tone. It also speeds up skin healing. Yogurt, on the other hand, helps nourish, exfoliate, moisturize, and renew the skin.
How to use:
- Mix ½ tsp of yogurt with a few drops of lemon.
- Apply the paste to the affected skin.
- Wash it off after 15 minutes and pat your skin dry.
6. Scrub with oats and lentil
Oatmeal is a natural anti-inflammatory substance that can curb the irritation, redness, and swelling associated with acne. It also inhibits bacterial growth and soothes the skin.
Lentil powder is used for its mild exfoliation properties that help cleanse the skin pores.
How to use:
- Mix 1 tbsp of oatmeal flour and 1 tbsp of lentil powder with ½ tsp of aloe vera gel. Make a paste by adding water.
- Apply the paste to the affected skin.
- Wash it off after 30 minutes and pat your skin dry.
7. Use Epsom salt
Epsom salt helps in the treatment of blind pimples by controlling the inflammation and pain.
How to use:
- Dissolve 1 tsp of Epsom salt in ½ cup of boiling water. Allow the mixture to cool.
- Dip a cotton ball in the solution and apply it to the affected area.
- Let it air-dry and then wash your skin.
8. Dab on some raw milk
Milk contains alpha-hydroxy acids that mildly exfoliate the skin and therefore unclog the pores. Moreover, milk softens and nourishes the skin.
How to use:
- Apply raw milk directly to the affected area using a cotton ball.
- After 10 minutes, wash the area with lukewarm water.
