A Mumbai woman’s post about social harmony has blown up after she narrated her simple yet meaningful gesture allowing her Uber driver to pull over and offer Namaz in the backseat.
In an increasingly cold and professional world where having to go a couple minutes out of one’s way can drive people up the wall, the woman was happy to sit in the front seat as the driver offered prayers during the unexpected stop on the way from the airport.
The rider, Priya Singh, was about 10 minutes into her trip when she heard Azaan play on the driver’s phone and wondered if he had done iftar yet.
“Did you break your fast yet?,” asked Priya to which the driver replied, “Yes, I did on the go because I had rental duty”.
She asked him “again” if he wanted to offer Namaz, which left the driver shocked. “Can I?,” asked the driver.
The two then agreed to pull over and switch seats so it was easy for the driver to say his prayers.
“That’s the kind of India my parent taught me about ,” Priya wrote in her LinkedIn post.
“We spoke in length about harmony and I expressed my wish to post this to fuel basics of humanity, on all social media platform!,” she added.
